‘Harbor at Spakenburg, the Netherlands’ Painting by Wilhelm Hambüchen
A group of villagers gathers near the docks in this traditional oil painting by German painter Wilhelm Hambuchen (1869 – 1939). Hambuchen (or Hambüchen) was born in Dusseldorf, Germany and started his art education there. Starting in 1904 he made regular trips to the North Sea coasts of Belgium and The Netherlands, often spending time in small fishing villages like the one in this painting. He is listed in many art reference guides such as Benezit, Thieme-Becker and the Witt Checklist. Framed in an antique frame complete with etiquette, signed lower right. Image size is 15 1/2 inches tall by 19 1/4 inches wide, framed dimensions are 22 inches by 25 1/2 inches.
