Back Door of a Dutch Cottage by Arie Zwart
A number of chickens peck at feed by the back door of an idyllic cottage somewhere in The Netherlands. Bright summer flowers cling to the cottage as the nearby trees start to shed their leaves, while off in the distance a light fog adds to the feeling of approaching fall. Adrianus ‘Arie’ Zwart was born in the Netherlands in 1903 and after graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague he was constantly on the move, always looking for new inspiration for his paintings. He traveled throughout Holland and lived in France and Spain for many years. He died in 1981, after a long and productive career. Oil on canvas signed lower left. Framed in a very fine period frame, measurements are 19 1/2 inches wide by 23 inches tall. Image measures 11 inches by 15 1/4.
